Welcome back to the first instalment of Fortified in the new year!  We hope and trust that your year has gotten off to a good start. After a few weeks off, we’re back in the swing of things, starting with a round-up of things that you might have missed over the holiday period.

Rest in peace, David Bowie!

The Orwells

The Orwells, like everyone at Fortress, were rocked by the passing of Bowie, a hero for all of us.  However, trying to stay positive, the boys have been teasing new material for 2016.  Over the Christmas period, they performed in ‘one-off supergroup The Oy Vey Bebes’ alongside The Walters for Treehouse Sessions.  Catch that below, and look out for lots to come from The Orwells this year!

Wes Period

When Wes realised that he had been featured on BuzzBand LA’s ‘Bands to Watch 2016‘ list he called it “the first list I’ve ever been on.”  That wasn’t quite true, though… because just days earlier his single Champagne Champion had been on Spotify’s Viral Top 50 playlist.  Nonetheless, we definitely agree that Wes is going to do some big things this year.  He’s been in the studio with all sorts of names recently, and the product of one of those collaborative sessions has been just been announced.  English soul singer Laura White’s new EP, scheduled for February 12, features none other than ‘King Bloom’ himself.

Andrew St. James

Andrew St. James also found himself being celebrated on a list – Pure Volume singling him out as one of their Top 10 Unsigned Artists.  The position is undoubtedly deserved, with Pure Volume calling his songwriting “head and shoulders above his peers.”  Andrew celebrated the holidays with a lovely cover of The Genies’ classic Who’s That Knocking, below.  He’s also just announced an appearance this coming Saturday at Schubas in Chicago as part of the Tomorrow Never Knows Fest.  If you’re in the area, don’t miss out!

Another one to watch is Los Coast, our young crooner who has been fine tuning his craft around central Texas recently.  He is one to watch, and you can do just that if you’re around Austin.  Los Coast recently performed at Scooty Inn as part of Do512’s Free Week, and will be at playing at Strange Brew every Monday throughout the month.
